A typical 6-week course
Relevant exercises are contained in the
RCA workbook for each topic being covered and often supplementary
material is also shown on an overhead projector for the course
co-coordinator to talk about. Practical sessions take place where
the students are also asked to make their own suggestions.

What is Racism?

Individual Exercise, or exercise in pairs.
Write anything you know about the
following groups of people

Positive/Negative points of each comment
made. Each Group of people is discussed further, to give a brief
background into their beliefs, customs, -often those which are
perceived as ‘funny.’
The class itself is then asked questions
about the participant’s backgrounds; eventually a picture is built
upon how diverse the origin of the people in the class is.
Week 3
Stereotypes (What is this?)
The word ‘Black’ used in language and
other negative aspects.
A short film is shown illustrating the
effects on one facing racially motivated bullying is shown.
Week 4
Euro centricity (what is it?)
The closing theme of week 2 is
re-iterated.
Prejudice (what is it?)
Television advertisements – positive /
negative images
Television programs
Week 5
Drama
– Responses to Racism (rehearsal)
Week 6
Drama–Responses to Racism- A performance
in front of the whole school.
Workshop session
All the children doing their own drama/
drawings/posters etc.
This
final session is concluded with a certificates being presented for
all those who have attended the course. Photographs are taken and
snacks are given to bring about a celebrating atmosphere to reward
the participants for their hard work
